MamaMia!

I'm having a lovely weekend so far
Yesterday we got up late
And went for brunch
Then my sister and I did a little bit of shopping
I bought a lovely grey cardigan
And a nice dark grey top
Then we came home and watched the women's Wimbledon tennis final
Which was very predictable
But still enjoyable
Then in the evening we headed over to Derry
Which is in Northern  Ireland
First we went for dinner
I ordered the pork belly with black pudding
I've never had it before
And when it came
I didn't much like the look of it
I tasted the pork
And it was so chewy and fatty
That it turned me right off
I ate as much as I could
As I didn't want to waste it
But it was really not to my taste at all
My sister ordered it also
And she liked it
But I find it so disappointing when I order something I don't like
When I was finished
I went to the bathroom
As I just felt so sick
Thank God it was empty
So I was able to do the deed in peace
I hate purging in public bathrooms
And try to avoid it as much as possible
But sometimes it has to be done
I cleaned up
And went back to my seat
And ordered dessert to make up for it
A delicious apple put with ice cream and custard
It made up for the horrible main

After we were fed and watered
We headed over to the theatre
There were four of us
Me, my Mother, my sister and my uncle
I know a lot of people hate musicals
But I love them
They are just so uplifting and feel good
Sometimes I find it really hard to watch them
As theatre is something that I would have loved to do
If things had turned out differently for me
But watching them is fun too
The show was nothing short of amazing
It was a west end production
So it was so polished and right
Thoroughly enjoyable
Of course MamaMia has all the ABBA classics
Everyone knows them
And the audience were on their feet from the start
I loved it!
And we all agreed it was well worth the journey and ticket price

Bie are some snaps from the last coue of days
If you are wondering why I have a photo of Weightwatchers
It was an ad in the foyer of the theatre
And typical me spotted it straight away
Don't worry
I'm not planning on joining
I just though it was a really strange place to put an ad

  1. Ruby, I was 28 when I made my first foray into theater. I certainly won't be ending up on Broadway, but getting a taste, even as an older adult, was 100% worth it. It's not too late to explore your interests and talents. I promise you are nowhere near past your sell-by date.

    1. Oh that's so cool that you went back to do it
There are amateur groups here so maybe I could look in to that
I just don't have the confidence at the moment x

  2. Wow what a great opportunity you had to go and see Mamma Mia! I'd love to see it sometime! It sounds like you had a great time apart from the pork belly incident. Xx

Yes I won't let that incident spoil my fun
I won't let it ruin my weekend
      It was just a blip
      Onwards and upwards.... X

  4. well it would be delusional to believe you could still make it onto a proper stage - i know your readers mean this well, and they are nice, but sometimes it is not so helpful, as it gets your hopes up on something that is no longer possible. But there are so many jobs behind the scenes you could do, like costume or writing for drama, etc etc. You can still become most jobs, even a medical doctor or a psychologist. And you could do some amateur drama! But I would not waste time on impossibilities, because that usually means achieving nothing but frustration. You look very pretty and like you have lots of fun, and that is very nice! I would have purged the pork, too!

    xx

    1. No I'm not clinging on to the hope that I can be a west end star
I mourned that loss a long time ago
      It's just hard sometimes
Thinking of what might have been
      You know?
      But yes
Writing would be a dream come true too x

    2. Josephin, how was that constructive? The odds are slim that anyone will make it big in theater, even with youth and talent, but the idea that grown adults can't do new things in a fulfilling way is what I consider delusional. I thought "I don't know if I'm any good at this, but I've always wanted to try" and when I finally got the courage to try, there were people who thought I was good at it. Also, theater needs more than just 20-year-old pretty faces.

This is half right though, in that behind the scenes jobs are a great way to get a toe in and enjoy the experience, whether or not you ever try to act. For my first show I was "The girl who moved the snakes" at intermission. Maybe you'll never do theater, Ruby, and don't beat yourself up if you don't (there are so many things out there for you to try), but like I said, you're nowhere near past your sell-by date.

It's ok to mourn for what you've lost, but you haven't lost tomorrow.

    3. There are many adult amateur groups for older people who've always wanted a stage experience. No one's talking about the big time.

  5. I'm glad you enjoyed the theatre, I still need to go at some point.
Love seeing the photos. The give me coffee and nobody gets hurt is the best sign ever.
Disappointing meals are never good, but I'm glad the dessert more than made up for it.
    Take care dear xx

  6. I love musicals so much, I really want to see Mamma Mia! but if I see it I want it to be in English not in Spanish, so I've never been when it was on here. I have the DVD but I'd Love to see it live.
It sounds like you are having a great time!
You look so stunning my dear ^-^

In fact I think it's the best show I've ever seen

  8. Glad you got to have a wonderful outing, Rubs-! sorry about the pork belly incident. Like the maize trous from last post; I'm partial to the yellows spectrum myself. I Lol 'd [literally] !! @ the 'laughing last' sign-!! or maybe should say 'loQl,' as it was QUITE loud !! :D
I think you should pursue ANYTHING that captures your interests as you're hardly over the hill, & age is, for the most part, only a #; [that said, as a 50 yo, I readily recognise my desire to take up skateboarding is not prudent, {especially as I had no proficiency as a youth!} but that's a whole different realm to THIS…]
Regardless to 'proper stage,' there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG w/you trying your hand in various pursuits--it's actually a HEALTHY undertaking. AND you needn't relegate yourself to the 'out of sight, out of mind' jobs, neivah! :/ Go w/your gut…'FLY,' my darling-!!

    1. Hey Jils,

Yes I love a bit of yellow
      It's bright and vibrant
And it's the only real colour I wear outside of black and navy
I would call those trousers mustard me thinks

And yes I am firm believer in its never too late to follow yout dreams
Granted I will never be a prima ballerina
      Or a hip hop master
But I can still take classes and dance for fun
      Watching that show last night
I was almost jeous of the people on stage
But I still love to watch and get involved as an audience member
      That's fun too right?

I love that you said go fly
Because this is the first time in a long time that I feel I can
That I am strong enough and capable enough
      So thank you x

    2. Mustard-!! of course. [he he, I'm still in habit of calling things by the names in the 64 box of Crayola crayons ! : S]
It's funny but I sawr a pair of trous just that same colour in my shop last wk--maybe I'll actually buy them now so we can fakely be twins togeva…-!?? :D
Doin' things for fun is Brilliant & so FREEING-! I still Turbo kickbox & bike ride; i feel like I'm playing ; )

  9. I can't bring myself to try new things on the rare occasion I go out, but worse is when they royally stuff up an old favourite. It's a shame about the pork belly, but the desserts both look amazing! Very fancy.
I'm glad you enjoyed the musical. I'm a huge ABBA fan, but for some reason have never been interested in Mamma Mia.

    1. I'm not mad about ABBA
But hearing all the songs live was amazing
Everything is much better live I think
But I've been singing ABBA songs ever since
I sing Honey Honey to Honey
Although my singing voice leaves a lot to be desired x

  10. i'm sorry that the main was so terrible. i think it's hard for us to eat when the food we are served isn't well and it's harder for us to accept what we've eaten. i'm still glad you gave it a go. i'm glad you ordered pud to make up for it.

going to the theater must be darling. i don't think i've ever been to a proper theater. i've seen strange thing though - including a belly dance show when i was on a boat. i still remember how nauseous i was when i was handed a cheese sandwich (because of the whole atmosphere around a boat! yuck!)

take care sweetie. keep on fighting xx

you're absolutely adorable. and incredible. <3

    1. Oh Sam
      You must try the theatre
It's such a good night out
I think you will either live it or hate it
      I personally love it
      It's cheesy and feel good
But I like that about it
I thoroughly recommend Mamma Mia though
The production we saw was flawless

      Aw thank you Sam
I cherish having you as a friend x
