Surfing the crimson wave

I first got my period when I was 14
I was lucky that I didn't get PMT
Or cramps
Or any other adverse effects
It was an inconvenience as I was a swimmer
But apart from that it didn't bother me all that much
For the next few years
It came and went
But when I was about 22
It stopped completely
And didn't reappear until about 3 months ago
So for 10 years I had no period
I have even forgotten that I was supposed to have one

So yes
About 3 months ago my period re-emerged
It was quite a shock to get it again
In a way it was like getting it for the first time all over again
And it has taken some getting used to
So every month since then
My period has come bang on time
Around the 16th of the month

But now when I get my period
I get cranky and irritable in the week before it arrives
According to my sister
If I am in the middle of a rant about something
She will simply ask
'When are you due your period?'
That shuts me up

Then the day before I get my period
I get really really tired
Like exhausted to the point that I need 2 naps a day
As well as a full nights sleep
I got my period on Tuesday
And since then I have been wiped out
I feel lethargic
I have big purple bags under my eyes
And I just generally feel like I want to climb in to bed
And stay there forever

I was wondering if any of you experienced this when you got your period back
Do let me know

Ten out of ten if you can name this film
I remember I used to love this film when I was a teenager
And this quote is one of the best

  1. As soon as I read your post title I said the line in Cher's voice. I know pretty much every line in that film. Absolutely love it, even now!cx

  2. LOL. I just re-watched Clueless - such a great movie.

I had a long time sans period too, and it was difficult to re-enter into having it. For a few reasons. It meant that I was really a woman and could assert myself in the world in such a big way as having a child. Whoa. It also made me think (in a disordered voice) that I had given up. But no. That is not true. I got strong. I'm really glad you posted this. <3

    1. Yes exactly Cakespy
It means that we are growing up and becoming women
And I'm not sure if I like that
It's part of life I guess for us girls
It's just such a pain in the ass! x

  4. I was super shocked to hear you haven't had on in that long. That's not very healthy girl. I laughed though because no, it's not just that you're getting it back, it's the fact that this is how a period works. I was a raging emotional, crazy biotch last time. I laid on the couch and cried and I was needy. It was awful. I was starving too. I especially get fatigue when it comes. I'll sleep forever and ever! You're turning back into a healthy girl. This is exciting!

  5. I get period depression ta day or two before and I'm sick for the first two days of my period. I don't have an ED so I've always had mine, I got it when I was only 11. I do get horrible cramps though and the more stressed I am the more they hurt like hell, I've even been taken to the emergency room for chronic period pain, I was screaming and my grandmother didn't know what else to do.
Periods aren't fun, but they are necessary, your body is recovering and that is wonderful. I love the movie to and the quote, I need to get it on DVD.
